The year is 2012, Humanity has completely destroyed all remnants of ecology on Earth, and has eaten up all the available resources. Oil is no longer an energy source, and the overpopulation has caused water to become insanely valuable. There are no fresh resources for use in human housing, and the daily death counts from simple things like dehydration and suicide is in the thousands. The possibility of terraforming other planets was dashed when the oil reserves ran out. The moon itself is overpopulated, and is made up of more housing than rock, and the one remaining safe haven, Mars, has disappeared.
Mars was enveloped in a wormhole that seemingly appeared out of nowhere. The remaining Government officials, realizing that the Sol system would no longer be able to contain life withing 5 years, knew that the wormhole was probably the only chance Humanity had.
They sent an expeditionary force named TEF7 to investigate what was on the other side. Their first view was amazing.
They saw the first ever Binary Star system up close, two pale blue stars surrounded by 12 interesting planets, the first, among others, was Mars which had miraculously survived the wormhole, and retained an orbit around the new system, the second was Addarvendari, a small planet with large bodies of water covering all but small island groups. And finally, PoC11746, the planet soon to be known to many humans as; Home.
PoC11746 was a planet much like Earth, but with smaller oceanic systems, there was much more land mass than Earth, and it was in a state of synchronous rotation; the planet always faced the sun, resulting in permanent daytime. The only breakup in daylight is when it's Amethyst moon; 'Nyx' passes over the Day side, giving a global eclipse, and a respite from the light.
Although TEF7 didn't land on any planets, they returned through the wormhole and reported their findings to the Governing officials. They were ordered to return to the system, and colonize PoC11746. They were also ordered to under no circumstances visit Addarvendari.
