BattleSwarm: Field of Honour Details 'Leaked' - Unique RTS vs FPS
Friday, 31 July 2009 13:23
nolanbushnell_424The strategy genre brings a new form of game blending to the field of war with Nolan Bushnell, working at Reality Gap, "leaking" the details to USA Today. The leak was timed well with the closed beta of Battleswarm: Field of Honour due to begin next week. Bringing FPS into RTS isnt new, though not truly successful so far, but bringing FPS AGAINST RTS is a fine new take on the genre, allowing two groups to fight in real time.

Initially conceived with his own family in mind, Nolan states he soon got fed up with the youthful FPS reactions of his tribe and felt he would compete better with his preference for RTS. The game allows the RTS players to play an insect like swarm in the RTS mode and a team based FPS mode for the humans. With up to 6 players per side and microtransactions for upgrades, it seems there will be little resource collection per se for the RTS side.

Citing a cross between Starcraft and Starship Troopers and allowing gamers to switch between the two - this game will probably prove quite popular. A better example comparison may be between Unreal Tournament Invasion mode and Starcraft. Only announced for the PC so far, even to this diehard PC fan this seems the perfect game for cross platform online gaming.

Nolan Bushnell is recognized as “The Father of the Video Game Industry.” This world-famous icon founded Atari, developed Pong, and created Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza Time Theatre. He is in the Consumer Electronics Association "Hall of Fame," the Metreon’s "Walk of Game," and the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California. Currently he is the CEO of uWink, Inc. and an important member of Reality Gap’s Board of Directors.
