Call of the Kings 1 Year ago Karma: 0
Call of the Kings is currently in closed beta testing with only 50 players invited over Christmas. There is however a pretty good chance that we'll start inviting more people within a month or two. You can sign-up at http://www.callofthekings.com

It's a RTS game in a 3D fantasy setting. It is based on gameplay that we originally used in the browser game Call of the Warlords back in 2001-2005.

Being developed by three guys and a few freelancers we're working against hard odds, but fortunately for the MMORTS games it seems that people are starting to realise that there are ways to implement competitive strategy in MMO games.

You can follow the development in our forum at http://forum.gamalocus.com

Apologies for the lack of reply up too now but its been somewhat hectic over this period. Welcome to the forum and many thanks for updating your games status for us. We seem to be focusing largely on a few games but this is just down to time constraints atm - mostly its just Havoc and I. As its client based we will certainly expand our coverage of your game asap - send any material you want included to us.

We will get around to updating all game info soon - the layout and presentation will change quite radically and all games will have a full review. Initially I thought content was priority with a mere presentation change to come but I got BETA'd and suddenly its 2008!!wth happened there? We also hoped for more player reviews etc but should have asked for a spreadsheet - would have got loads lol.

Nice screenshots, but the content is too mature for me.

In the original Call of the Warlords the age of the players we know of spanned from 8 (school kid) years to 53 (an interior designer). But you are right. The diplomacy and high end strategy appeals more to the slightly older people compared to the tactical mayhem of normal RTS games.

MMO:
We expect each world shard to contain 2000 active users. We still need to benchmark on this, however the game world is currently not designed to contain more active players than the 2k.
The players control an aristocratic House of families. They will all have a main family of heroes in the khadorian Empire which is a slow progress world much like the concepts behind many browser based strategy games. ie. every few hours you gain some income that you can login and spend. The Khadorian Empire game will last from 2-5 months.
Meanwhile you will be able to send related families into faster colonial frontier games. These are basicly smaller versions of the Khadorian Empire (different geography and scenario objectives of course) with income arriving once every minute. These are designed to last a standard gaming session of 1-5 hours. The fast games will have room for 10-100 players depending on scenario type. The outcome of the colonial games will reflect back into the slow Khadorian Empire game. And the "global" politics, clans etc. will reflect the other way from the Empire into the colonial frontiers.

RTS:
It is a strategy game and it runs in realtime. Armies move in realtime and actions are executed in realtime. The income is tick based ie. it arrives once per game month.

I hope that clarifies it
