A mostly quiet member of our genre, NavyField - the Tactical Strategy Simulation set in World War II, has undergone a recent transformation it seems. Until now we thought this game was released worldwide but it seems the kind folks at SDEnternet, a korean developer, had merely provided a fully English language version anyway. Proclaiming a new initaitive to release NavyField worldwide after six years activity, the game will again feature as an official game of KIPA's GNGWC Tournament in 2008.
"We believe that localization is a key to success in the overseas market and we are still considering ways on how we can solve this issue. The basic step would be translated for each local area. We have also thought of other various possibilities including adding unique maps for users in each country or taking events for local holidays" said CEO Hakyong KIM.

Rumours of a Company of Heroes Online RTS have been bouncing around a while now and it seems that THQ and Shanda may be colluding to produce a Online RTS with persistent ranking, not quite MMORTS but getting there. With Shanda getting the exclusive China distribution and THQ sharing in the share of market outside of China, this will be the second World War II title to enter our genre from Mainstream RTS, with NavyField being the only other historical/simulation MMO to cover this period of time that fascinates so many.
"Company of Heroes Online is set to deliver a persistent Company of Heroes experience for online gamers where players will be able to build their character up from private to general through new multiplayer cooperative missions, gameplay modes, and player versus player combat. The teams at Relic Entertainment and Shanda are joining together to create a persistent RTS experience across the expansive battlefields of World War II Europe." said Tianqiao Chen, Chairman and CEO of Shanda. Carefully worded to not create huge expectations and published with Safe HArbour Statements to moderate their claims, we will be watching this game closely.
